Not What I Meant

‘Twas back in the Seventies
to my New York sister I wrote
Because I was curious about life there
I questioned her in a note

I wanted to know if she ever saw stars
Celebs who I really adored
She answered my question clumsily
in a way that I really abhorred

She said that she sometimes saw stars
though it was easy to be misled
because they didn’t have horns
growing out of their heads

This response really riled me
I meant only stars I liked, of course!
I was massively disappointed
because she chose not to be a source

I think about that dumb letter
every day when I watch TV
I see famous people all the time
Their names mean nothing to me.
