Thanksgiving Soy Burger

In the old days, my family
had the usual Thanksgiving feast
Now they’re flung far and wide (some have died)
and Thanksgiving meals are discrete

Now I am free to choose
meals of my own creation
Including the holiday dinner
meant to honor this-here nation

Soy burgers are on top of the list
followed by vegetables and cheese
tea, and cocoa-flavored coffee
a chocolate dessert is sure to please

TV is also on the menu
A parade or two, and then
a repeat of General Hospital
Is Maxie still pregnant, or again?

We do not gather together
because we are dissipated
detached, estranged, dispersed, diverged
thoroughly disseminated

I tried to think of some sweet lines
to end this on a positive note
There’s nothing jolly I can add
so for now, that’s all I wrote.
